Who We Are
Our mission is LIFE, and we pursue it four ways:
* We save pets—the abandoned, the abused and the neglected, whose previous backgrounds were ALL filled with neglect due to overpopulation and uninformed owners, who lacked the foresight to spay or neuter, or to provide heartworm prevention for their domestic pets.
* We nurse them back to health
* We provide a sanctuary for those who are deemed unadoptable
* Most important of all, we find them loving homes — no matter how long it takes, one LIFE at a time
Blackdogs Animal Rescue was organized as a no-kill, non-profit domestic animal rescue due to Becca Martin's deeply felt desire to reduce the number of animals that were being euthanized annually in Estill County. We eventually grew into a rescue dedicated to helping puppies and dogs from rural shelters in eastern Kentucky. Blackdogs Rescue accommodates lost, abandoned, and injured dogs. We give our animal friends an opportunity to be loved, have a chance at life, and hopefully, find a new family. Although we often say we focus on the herding breeds, we have rescued everything from Chihuahuas to Irish Wolfhounds. But our true passion has always been the puppies. We usually take the puppies who were previously passed over by other rescues or the ones who are in danger because they went to the shelter when it was too full and more and more, the ones who have medical needs. Even so, we think that our puppies turn out the prettiest because we believe in them. Broken legs heal and so do hearts and it is our job to help with the puppy on the mend. Every puppy has a story. We are just honored to be a small part of it.
